"I give up." It was Jenee O’Connor’s answer to the nagging question of spiritual growth. Her pride had forced her to hold onto her shortcomings and failures. Being raised in the church she developed a facade of perfection and creatively concealed the scars of past rejections. The burden finally became too much. "Being weak wasn’t an option for me," says Jenee. "I'm learning that giving up my pride opens the door for love, compassion and mercy. The Lord doesn’t want us to be a hostage to our fears."
Jenee brings a musical message of hope to believers who need to give up in the struggle of trying to grow spiritually through will-power. Her disarming sense of humor helps listeners learn that confession is the beginning of God creating pure intentions within us. "I've come to understand that pride is an armor we raise to cover up pain," says Jenee. "I want to model compassion and safety as I let my guard down. Others can then risk being authentic too."
Jenee's liberating message is delivered with a jazz influenced musical style. Her musical experience began at age four and has grown to include penning her own tunes, proficiency with four instruments, a conservatory degree, private coaching and extensive ministry in the church.
